Introduction to Web Development

Welcome to your first step into the digital world! Have you ever wondered how your favorite websites like YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram are made? In this module, you’ll learn the basics of how the web works, the difference between what you see on your screen and what happens behind the scenes, and the tools you’ll need to start building your own sites. By the end of this module, you’ll feel like you’ve been given the keys to a secret world — the world of web developers. Lesson 1: What is Web Development? Web development is the process of creating websites and web applications that you can access through the internet.
  • Frontend → The part of the website you can see and interact with (buttons, images, text, menus).
  • Backend → The hidden part that stores data, processes information, and makes sure everything works smoothly.
Why it matters: Almost every business, school, and creator needs a website. Learning web development means you can bring ideas to life, make money, and even work from anywhere. Lesson 2: How the Web Works (Frontend vs Backend) Think of the web like a restaurant:
  • Frontend = The dining area you see (tables, menus, waiters).
  • Backend = The kitchen and staff working behind the scenes to make the food you ordered. When you type a web address, your computer sends a request to a server (a powerful computer), which sends back the website to display in your browser.
Lesson 3: Tools You Need To start coding, you don’t need a fancy computer — just the right tools:
  1. Browser → Google Chrome, Firefox, or Edge (for viewing your website).
  2. VS Code → A free code editor where you write your website’s code.
  3. Live Server → An extension that lets you instantly see the results of your code.
Tip: Keep your workspace neat — just like an artist needs clean brushes, a developer needs a tidy coding space.
